Alberto Comoretto is a PhD Student in the Soft Robotic Matter Group of Dr. Ir. J.T.B. Overvelde and is currently a Visiting Researcher in the TTDD Lab. He researches soft robots that are smart because of their body and their physical interaction with the environment, more analogous to natural systems than to computers. By harnessing intrinsic physical phenomena, such as mechano-fluidic nonlinearities, he aims to embody complex autonomous behaviors in seemingly simple systems, for the democratic adoption of robots and devices. In the TTDD lab, Alberto investigates electricity-free power sources for untethered autonomous machines. His other interests include soft and active matter, metamaterials, biophysics, and street photography.
